A well-driven young mind offering I.T. solutions

Vincent Mataga, a recent graduate from the Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology has stopped at nothing to become his own boss. With a Diploma in Information and Technology (I.T.) he currently runs and owns his company called Codebytes Creatives at just 25 years old.

His business services include web design and development, software development, mobile application development, graphic design and digital marketing (Search Engine Optimisation). The idea and concept for his business came about in 2016 when he was doing his second year of studies. “I wanted to put all my skills to good practice. I got my first web design client who then opened doors for me.” says Mataga.

With the success of his first client and the uncertainty of finding employment as his driving force, Mataga then continued to look for clients as a freelancer until he officially registered his company in February 2017.

“I chose to take a different path and to focus on employing myself and do what I love most, which is my line of work.”

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing from there, as Mataga faced a number of challenges. “There are a lot of businesses out there offering the same services and being a start-up company, it was hard to deal with trying to convince people to use my services.” he said.

This was not the only challenge Mataga had to grapple with, as he also had to quickly educate himself on how to deal with pricing and business transactions.

Having learnt how to successfully run and operate his business, Mataga now focuses on the marketing aspect which includes building an online presence for his business. Apart from word of mouth, good referrals and networking at events & business seminars as viable marketing tools, he credits social media as his most effective tool.

“Social media is 80% of my marketing. Most of my clients are there. That is my marketplace. It’s been very effective,” Mataga explains.

Looking at all he has achieved thus far, the young business man is not shy to pat himself on the back. “Still on my graduation and studies, I was awarded with an Achievers Award of being the ‘Best Student’, of which it became one of my best achievements after my business of course.” he says.

Mataga, being a driven young mind, is doing all he can to grow. Over and above running Codebytes Creatives, he is currently doing an online short course in Digital Marketing to enhance his skills; and outside of being a businessman, Mataga describes himself as a friendly young man with numerous talents. “I have an interest in the music scene as I produce mainly hip hop music for upcoming underground artists as well,” he added.

Because he believes in the principle “work now & play later”, Mataga has taken a break from a lot of his hobbies to concentrate on the growth of his company and brand. He says that his long-term goal is national and global recognition. He also cites the client’s needs, satisfaction of paying his own bills and effective time management as the driving forces behind choosing his business and his studies over his hobbies.

Being taught form an early age to not only work hard but to also give back, Mataga believes that we should empower each other as the black community. “It’s all about empowering each other as the black community, and also supporting and educating one another on being successful black business owners. We can do it and many have done it.” he concluded.
