The EYC Divas will be hosting auditions on Saturday, the 1st of April 2017, at the Bat Centre in Durban. The event will start at 9:00am and finish at about 3:30pm. On this day the EYC Crew will be scouting for 15 young and self-driven plus size ladies aged between 18 years and 33 years.
Speaking to Nomalungelo Mkhize, the founder of this project, she said the ladies must strictly be from size 38 to 44, have leadership qualities and be passionate about this journey of modelling. She also emphasized the point that the girls should be willing to learn; love and embrace their perfect imperfections and be ready to become ‘role models’ in society.
Nomalungelo, herself, is one passionate lady. A believer and go getter by nature. Many people have attempted to discourage her from starting this initiative but she’s been persistent throughout.
“I have lost a few friends by deciding to do something productive, the one thing which makes me happy. Bringing change into someone’s life brings joy in me because I know I have played a role in that person’s development through good life lessons and grooming.”
On a number of occasions Nomalungelo has experienced ill treatment before, from society, because of her size and weight. That’s when she decided to launch this project. She wanted people to see that size, weight or body shapes do not necessarily define a person. She wants society to stop body shaming and instead, respect people of all sizes and shapes. So that is the reason why she chooses to work with models that have the same vision as hers.
She further told us that the bigger picture about this project is to end up having a platform that will celebrate and inspire plus size males or females who are determined to make it in life through all the obstacles; to have fashion tips and other programmes that will help keep their fans active and motivated all the time. As an Agency, they are also planning to host their very our own Fashion Week as well as an Annual Women Empowerment Conference, since they believe that they are always left behind in this particular aspect.
We are going to have a monthly fashion show night showcasing the latest fashion trends and also have pop up sales where we will travel to different provinces to interact with our fans. Team building camps and high teas are also in the pipeline.
Due to the EYC Agency’s large following and great partnership with photographers, creatives, etc. Nomalungelo and her team have decided to have a Pop Up sale on the day of the event where local designers will be showcasing their latest work.
We are urging all you beautiful plus size divas to make your way down to the Bat Centre. Who knows? You might be one of the lucky ones to be chosen on the day!
